Emmanuel: PCAP is a state-funded insurance program that helps pay for prenatal care services of underserved and uninsured women in Harlem.

Q: What services do you provide at the Helen B. Atkinson Center?

Emmanuel: We provide a wide range of services in adult medicine, prenatal care, gynecological care, family planning and pediatric care for the Harlem community. We also provide specialty services such as dentistry and podiatry services, HIV testing and counseling services and nutrition help.

Q: What is prenatal care?

Emmanuel: Prenatal care involves things like helping mothers maintain healthy nutrition, monitor blood pressure and blood sugar levels during pregnancy.

Why are we failing to dissolve Health Disparities Among Minorities

Since the 70's there have been incoporation of many community programs, to improve health outcomes in underserved area snd among , Blacks, Latinos and Native Americans. While many programs have improved child health and infant mortality. Particularly Adult Blacks & Latinos are still having complications of preventable disease at disproportionate rates.

H1N1 vaccine available in NYC

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced yesterday that the first set of H1N1 flu vaccines would be available. Health workers and children are among the first who will get the vaccine. Read the press release here.
