Nancy Bruning writes and edits books and articles about health for the general public as well as for health professionals. She has a master's degree in Public Health with a specialty in Community Health Education. She is also a certified fitness trainer and is a consultant for fitness programs. She has written over 25 books and numerous articles about wellness, nutrition, physical activity, weight loss and urban design and is a peer reviewer for professional journals including the American Journal of Public Health as a Research Associate at the Immigration and Health Initiative at Hunter College, she conducts and analyzes the results of focus groups that address Latinas' weight issues. She is active in several community-based projects in Northern Manhattan, including CLIMB (City Life Is Moving Bodies), a community-based initiative founded on the belief that all communities, regardless of socioeconomic background, are entitled to access safe parks and neighborhoods. She has been President of the community-based nonprofit, Friends of Fort Tryon Trust, since 2005. As founder of Fitness Alfresco, she designs individualized fitness programs for individuals, groups, and organizations. Through her Nanercize programs she helps people customize their nutritional supplements and exercise programs to achieve a healthy, attractive body weight.
