Think you might be at risk for HIV and looking for a way to have worry-free sex? PrEP (also known as pre-exposure prophylaxis) could be for you. If you don’t have HIV currently, this once-a-day pill can greatly reduce your chances of getting HIV, stopping the disease in its tracks. In fact, leading experts have found that for those who took the pill daily, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by more than 90%.

More and more individuals are taking PrEP, and if interested, you can stop by any of the health clinics listed on the NYC Health Map to get a prescription. If you have a regular doctor or nurse, you can also ask them about the medication. PrEP is covered by New York State Medicaid and most private insurers. If you’re currently uninsured and interested in PrEP just call 311 for help getting insurance.
