This project celebrates the oral traditions of music and poetry from the Caribbean, Africa, Native America, Spain, Latin America and the United States. Troubadours, urban poets, street corner orators and traditional music and dance are featured. Inspired by the Latino tradition of community gardens - brough to NY by immigrants from the Caribbean and Central America and in the late 1950s and 1960s - La Casita is a coming together of cultures, of ideas, of multi-races and multi-languages.
