"Meat Market"
Artist Exhibition by: Christina Massey
May 28th, 2010 - July 10th, 2010
Opening Reception: Friday, May 28th, 6-9PM
An upcoming Art exhibtion at the Taller Boricua / The Puerto Rican Workshop will feature an art installation by Christina Massey titled "Meat Market."
In Massey's Meat Market, the artist uses her own "killed" paintings to create a meat locker of paintings that have been turned into three-dimensional carcass-like forms. Sewn and tied in are remnants of cloth and raw canvas creating an abstract mingling of life sized hanging forms that the viewer is invited to walk between. A life-long vegetarian, Massey combines her views on the meat industry with the irony of the Chelsea Art Districts history of spaces made from the old meat packing industry. The works are both abstract and realistic, sculpture and painting, leaving a slew of commentaries to be discovered in the details of the work to be takeneither literally or conceptually.
