Apparently a new salad place opened up on 125th. It's called "island salad". Here's the article I found about it, posted Dec. 14th 2009. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/14/a-big-salad-person-reaches-out-to-harlem/#more-111553 .
Has anyone been there?
Here is their website (nice music) http://www.islandsalad.com/. I checked out the menu and prices, still a little high, maybe a $1 or so less that what you'd get elsewhere in the City. But at least there's a place to get salad here. I'll try to make a point to try it sometime in the New Year!
Speaking of salad...
I got some lettuce seeds at an event I went to a few weeks ago and they've started to sprout! I wonder if I'll actually be able to grow salad in my apartment. I am looking online to see what other vegetable and herb seeds I can buy that grow well indoors. I think I am going to try:
- scallions
- tomatoes
- lettuce
- spinach
Has anyone tried to grow these inside...and kept them inside? I've been reading a lot and they always tell you to grow it inside to start, but then transplant outside.
Hopefully, after I gather enough knowledge and try some of these out, I will have my own salad garden. It'll save me money and I'd know where my food came from. Exciting!

This is GREAT! I'm going to have to try it on my lunch break! Such a great example of someone in the community making the changes that they want to see take place!
