East Harlem Green Festival 2010

As many of you know, yesterday, April 22, 2010 was Earth Day. To celebrate, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, the Nourishing Kitchen of New York City, and Go Green East Harlem hosted the East Harlem Green Festival at the Target East Harlem Garden (417 E. 117th Street between Pleasant and 1st Avenue).

Two GetHealthyHarlem.org writers attended the event and had a great time! Here are some pictures from the afternoon:

There were a ton of people at the Target Garden for the festival! Those big red circles are solar panels.

The photos above are of Gina teaching everyone how to cook Mexican Pizza. Find the recipe here. It was delicious AND healthy!

Some yummy food from the Nourishing Kitchen (salad, three bean salad, brown rice and bread pudding, and hummus).

Scott Stringer made a speech about East Harlem and there was a NYC tap water toast to East Harlem.

All in all, it was a wonderful day!

Here's a video about the event!

Let's hear it for planting a garden! This event looks like it was a lot of fun. The food sounds like and looks like it was tasty (hummus? cilantro? yummy).

I hope the kids in the videos plant their own veggie gardens.
