Did you know...there are lots of ways to burn calories without the traditional “work out”?

Ever want to burn a few calories without going to the gym? Try some of these quick and fun activities that are super easy to incorporate into your daily routine:

  • Go for a walk outside. Your speed doesn't matter so much as you are out there walking. Walking a mile can burn off about 100 calories.
  • Be a kid again. Playing with your children in the park for 30 minutes can burn up to 170 calories. It is also great exercise for your kids!
  • Try jumping rope. Jump roping isn't just for kids anymore - it is also a great workout. An average size person can burn over 200 calories in 15 minutes, or 400 calories in 30 minutes, by jumping rope.
  • Do some household chores. Daily household chores can help you burn calories while cleaning up your home. By sweeping for 30 minutes, you can burn up to 150 calories.

While doing these activities, you can burn lots of calories. Over a year, this can translate into a lot of weight loss:

  • If you sweep your place four days a week for 30 minutes each day, you could lose almost 9 pounds in a year.
  • If you walk a mile every day, in addition to the regular walking you do to and from places like the bus or the store, you could lose over 10 pounds in a year.
  • If you play with your kids for 30 minutes every day, you could lose over 17 pounds in a year.
  • If you jump rope for 30 minutes four times a week, you could lose over 23 pounds a year

I think it's going to take more than water for me to lose thanksgiving weight!
Avoid drive. It would be better to park and walk rather than do business while sitting in your car. Whether you are going to the drugstore, bank or a fast food restaurant, choose inconvenience.
